Winter 2015 Student Learning Goal:
“Musical Theater: Mostly Broadway”
OVERVIEW
Each year, Nessacus Instrumental Music students engage in an exploration of an aspect of music- music history/culture, genre or style. Explorations are a big part of the learning process during this time and students become creators and performers for these projects.
A concert is usually presented by several performing groups at the end of March/beginning of April to coincide with MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOL’S MONTH. While all students participate in the unit and learn through exploration and creating/performing (and recording) in lessons, not all groups will necessarily perform at the concert. This year the performing groups will include the 7th Grade and 8th Grade Bands . This year’s concert is scheduled for April 1st. (The next concert after that is May 28th- The Spring Concert.)
Recent themes included: MUSIC IN AMERICA and MUSIC FROM FILMS. This year’s theme is ‘MOSTLY BROADWAY’ which will include an exploration of Musical Theater-in particular Musical Theater as it developed in America on Broadway.
